What adaptability skills can you train to:

  • adapt to the business,
  • innovate and
  • get out of your comfort zone with less stress?

Although adaptatability is not just a skill, training adaptability in these areas can make it much easier for you to face new challenges.

See what the skills are below:

1. Creativity.

Creativity is a skill that allows you to create new solutions where they don’t already exist. Creativity is not applicable for art only – it’s the skill you use to innovate and solve problems in new, never-seen-before circumstances of business and/or career.

It’s my passion to dig deep into the practical side of creativity in business, so make sure to follow me if you’re interested.

2. Grit.

Grit is an ability to reach a goal through difficulty.

If you’re stepping into the unknown, the results are not certain, however, it’s 100% sure that:

  • there will be difficulties while reaching your goal, and
  • you will have to step outside your comfort zone AND endure the uncomfortable feelings, actions, until you succeed.

That is a skill. You can train grit, if you know, how.

3. Mental flexibility.

Mental flexibility is an ability to work, accepting even diametrically opposed conditions, opinions, views.

Let’s say – you have to create the highest quality project in the shortest amount of time (we need to finish it ‘yesterday’), AND with low budget.

Mental flexibility is the skill you can train to make such situations easier for you internally, and find the solutions where otherwise you normally’d think it’s impossible to do so.

4. Resilience.

Resilience is an ability to recover from failures and return to work.

If grit is more of a healthy stubborness, resilience allows you to ‘shake it off’ and continue, if the previous strategy didn’t work.

5. Unlearning.

Unlearning is the ability to drop what you already know when it is no longer working (but has most often led you to success in the past).

Unlearning is a relatively new concept, and I’ll definitely talk about it more here, so stick around. Bookmark that blog section.

6. Change mindset.

What it means – that you believe that change itself can be good.

Adapting to new, unplanned and out-of-your-control changes is the Mission Impossible, if you don’t believe in the core that change CAN actually lead to good things.

So if nothing else, I’d recommend working on this one, if you want to survive in the ever-changing world of business.

7. Observation.

Observation is a skill that allows you to get off the autopilot and name ‘what is’ in you, in others, and in a specific situation (you won’t believe how often many unnecessary problems can be eliminated just by knowing this alone).

Just like a doctor can help you when they know the diagnosis, knowing how to simply name the situation and observe every important detail of it can lead to great solutions when it’s necessary to adapt in business.

Yes, all of these 7 adaptability skills can be trained.
